    Movie Theater Slides and Videos

    Movie SlideMWR provides FREE, first-run movies for Sailors and families daily at three San Diego Navy base movie theaters. Include your ad in our pre-feature program of movie slides and video advertising. These vibrant, full-color advertisements are shown on full-size movie screens for 20 seconds. The Naval Base San Diego theater has a capacity of 950. The Lowry Theater at Naval Air Station North Island accommodates 1,540 patrons. The Naval Amphibious base has a capacity of 50 patrons with a monthly attendence of 1,000 patrons. Each theater airs 72 movies monthly. Average attendance at Naval Base San Diego is 50,400 monthly (900 per movie) and North Island is 64,800 monthly (700 per movie). Average attendence at Naval Amphibious Base is 1,000 monthly. Total monthly exposures average 116,200. Advertising presentations run on a loop for approximately 30-45 minutes prior to each movie.

For the contest, you provide the trivia questions and answers about your business and a prize worth $50 or more; we place the contest in the newsletter with your ad and direct readers to your website for the answers.     Welcome Home Pizza & Liberty Center Familiarization Tours Program

    SAN DIEGO METRO NAVAL BASES - This program provides each returning ship, aircraft carrier and submarine with an individualized (10'w x 4'h) “Welcome Home” banner as well as pizza to Sailors standing watch their first night in San Diego. The banner is prominently placed to greet incoming traffic and returning Sailors and contains the Presenting Sponsor’s logo. Additionally, the six (6) Liberty Centers can arrange San Diego familiarization tours for those incoming Sailors in buses that have a magnetic sign designating the Sponsor(s). The “Welcome Home” program serves over 125,000 Sailors annually.

    Sailors Home-Away-From-Home - Liberty Center Programs

    SAN DIEGO METRO AREA - Sailors get a break from their ship or work at the nearest Liberty Center where events include: luaus, BBQs, Comedy Nights, special event parties with refreshments, entertainment and trivia competitions, Super Bowl Extravaganzas, “Home Away from Home” events complete with food, games, music and movies, and annual holiday festivities. Organized trips and excursions such as Big Bear, Las Vegas, Catalina Island, white water rafting, canoe trips, camping, Grand Canyon and more are also planned. Activities include food, games and music. Events are promoted through posters recognizing Sponsor(s) in Liberty Centers, theater ads, digital signage (reaching 275,000 monthly), Facebook and our e-newsletter (reaching 50,000 weekly). These activities and programs serve 185,000 Sailors annually.

    Free Active Duty Bowling & Billiards

    NASNI AND NBSD - On Tuesdays, Sailors enjoy FREE lunch time bowling. NASNI’s Sea ‘N Air Lanes has free lunchtime bowling for active duty & military retirees. Additionally NBSD's Admiral Robinson Recreation Center offers free lunchtime bowling & billiards for active duty. The events attract approximately 400 per facility weekly or 41,600 annually. Sponsorship is available in two-month segments.

    Bowling Tournaments and Events

    SAN DIEGO METRO AREA - Many bowling tournaments and events are held annually including: Junior Scholarship League, Sweetheart Specials, St. Patrick’s Day Spring Tournament, Family Days of Summer Fun, Armed Forces Tournament, Special Olympics, National Amateur Bowlers, Labor Day Special, Turkey Shoot, Military 200 Club, and
    Non-Alcoholic New Year’s Eve Parties. These events are open to all branches of the military, their families, reservists, retirees and DoD civilian personnel. Each event attracts from 600 to 1,000 participants.

    All-Star Events/Leagues-Competitions Tournaments

    SAN DIEGO METRO AREA - The eight (8) San Diego Navy Fitness Centers serve over 84,000 patrons monthly, and hold league competitions and tournaments in softball, football, volleyball, basketball, soccer, softball, dodge ball, tennis and racquetball. All-Star events build morale and help military members maintain peak physical fitness. Prizes are awarded to individuals, commands and group winners. Event favorites include: Presidents’ Day Softball Tournament, Navy Relief Sports Week Softball, Basketball Tournaments, Take-it-to-the-Hoop Lunchtime League, Kickball Tournament, PRT Command Challenge and Holiday Sports Week. Expected participation is 100-500 for each event serving over 150,000 annually.

    Youth Programs

    SAN DIEGO METRO AREA - Navy Region Southwest operates nine (9) child development centers and eight (8) youth centers throughout San Diego County. Youth programs provide physical activities, field trips to theme parks and San Diego local attractions, movie nights, dances, entertainment, holiday celebrations, Month of the Military Child events, after school programs, Military Family Toddler Time and many more fun events. Sponsorship of Youth Center Programs supports activities for over 40,000 children per month and approximately 480,000 annually.

    Student Transition Programs

    SOUTHWEST REGION - Military children and their families are helped through difficult public school transition periods. Meetings and events bring together military children, their families and educators in a relaxed atmosphere to get acquainted, discuss goals, and introduce the MWR and Fleet & Family programs available to assist in the development of military students into productive and secure public school attendees. Sponsorship supports activities for over 10,000 children per month and approximately 120,000 annually.

    Military Youth Shark Club & Swim Lessons

    NBPL - Summer programs, including Youth H2O Polo, offer fun and safe water playing habits in incremental swimming skill advancement as well as water safety training for school age children. These programs serve 2,000 youths.

    Fleet And Family Support Center Services

    SAN DIEGO METRO AREA - Ongoing programs such as Military Family Individual Augmentee (IA) Support Meetings, Navy Gold Star Events, Family Outreach Programs and Teen Success Job Fairs, relocation assistance, new parent support, deployment services, clinical counseling services, financial management counseling, family employment services, family advocacy and the transition assistance programs are available daily to active duty and their family members. Sponsorship supports refreshments at a variety of events. These events provide resources and needed support services to over approximately 70,000 patrons monthly and over 840,000 annually.

    Fitness Challenge Events

    SAN DIEGO METRO AREA - Active duty compete as individuals, teams or commands in MWR fitness challenges designed to put fun into keeping fit and ready. Challenges include, Monthly Running Clinics, Spring Training Workouts, Tri-Challenge, Spring Fitness Challenge, Heartbreak Hill Challenges, Aquathon with a 2.5 mile run, 450 meter swim and finish with a 2.5 mile run, plus more. Prizes are awarded to individuals, team and command, winners at these seasonal events. Fitness Challenges are hosted by each of the eight (8) Navy Fitness Centers that serve over 84,000 patrons monthly and over 1,000,000 annually.

    San Clemente Officer in Charge (OIC) Cup

    NBC/SAN CLEMENTE • Ongoing - The OIC Cup consists of ongoing athletic and other competitions among island residents. The competitions foster goodwill and promote fitness. Events include basketball, volleyball, softball, pool, darts and others. Approximately 200 patrons will attend.

    2nd Saturday Auto Maintenance Monthly Training Program

    NBSD • Beginning January 10 - Automotive experts share their expertise on the second Saturday of each month with active duty military and their families. The training program demonstrations teach participants how to conduct basic repairs or maintenance on their personal vehicle and how to recognize and avoid automotive scams. This program is expected to attract 500 participants annually.

    Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. 5K Run

    NBSD • January 14 - This run is a tribute from MWR and our Sailors to the contributions of this great American citizen. The event features exhibitor booths, as well as a presentation of awards for winning individuals and commands. Over 600 runners participate.

    Wounded Warrior Friendship Day

    NMCSD • February TBD - Naval Medical Center children and youth waiting room offers the making of a Friendship Flag, bracelets and art activities to children visiting the hospital. The event also includes refreshments and is open to all MWR patrons and attracts approximately 75 participants.

    20th Annual Polar Bear Swim

    NBPL • February 13 - This is a five hundred yard swim in the cold waters of the bay. The event features exhibitor booths, as well as a presentation of awards for winning individuals and commands. The event is open to all MWR patrons and attracts approximately 75-100 participants.

    Regional Sailor of the Year Program

    SAN DIEGO METRO AREA • February 17-28 - The Sailor of the Year program recognizes outstanding Sailors who have shown exceptional or unrecognized honor, valor, and dedication to fellow Sailors and the community. These Sailors embody the finest qualities of the men and women serving in today’s U. S. Navy. Approximately 100 recipient honorees are expected.

    Personal Financial Management Seminar

    NBSD • February 24 - This program provides customized learning opportunities to address unique issues faced by the military family. The seminar will provide information and resources to help with the financial demands on all of our MWR patrons. Approximately 500 MWR patrons will attend.

    Naval Air Facility (NAF) El Centro has a unique combination of climate, vast unobstructed desert terrain, limited non-military air traffic, convenient access to gunnery and bomb ranges-which makes it an ideal environment for training. NAF El Centro is the winter training home of the Blue Angels and routinely provides service to Navy Fleet air squadrons performing tactical air training, as well as other US and international units.     Naval Base San Diego (NBSD) is the largest of the San Diego Naval installations. It provides services to its Sailors and other personnel as well as to the pier-side needs of different countries’ visiting ships. NBSD is home to more than 200 separate tenant commands and other Navy support facilities, each having specific and specialized fleet support missions. NBSD provides rooms to house more than 4,000 men and women in modern apartment-like barracks, including Pacific Beacon, a new state-of-the-art residence. The base today has a plant value of around $2.1 billion and is one of the world’s most modern and largest naval bases.

These eight installations encompass more than 57,000 acres and make NBC the largest command in the southwest region of the U.S. NBC accounts for over 30% of the Region’s total workforce and has the largest workforce in San Diego County.

    Naval Base Point Loma (NBPL)

    Naval Base Point Loma (NBPL) supports 70 U.S. Pacific Fleet afloat and shore based tenant commands headquartered on the base. NBPL’s primary focus is to provide safe, efficient, and timely services to both home-ported and visiting submarines, surface ships, and mine counter measure vessels. Major tenant commands include Commander Third Fleet, Naval Mine and Anti-Submarine Warfare Command, Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command (SPAWAR), SPAWAR Systems Center, Fleet Intelligence Training Center Pacific, Tactical Training Group Pacific, Submarine Squadron Eleven, Commander Sealift Logistics Command Pacific, Submarine Training Center Pacific Detachment, seven submarines, a floating dry dock, and the Navy’s Substance Abuse Rehabilitation Department.

    Naval Base Ventura County (NBVC)

    Naval Base Ventura County (NBVC) is a key contributor to the readiness of the Department of Defense’s total force, providing development and testing of new systems, joint warfare experimentation, training and readiness, and homeland defense. Activities provide significant airfield, seaport, railhead, and base facilities support for multiple tenant operations by all branches of the military, including the Reserve and Air National Guard. It stands as a full-service organization and is a main naval installation on the West Coast accommodating a wide variety of personnel, missions, battalions, construction forces and more.

    Naval Support Activity (NSA) Monterey

    Naval Support Activity (NSA) Monterey is home to over 15 tenant commands. NSA Monterey provides primary support to the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS), Navy Research Lab (NRL), and the Fleet Numerical Meteorology and Oceanography Center (FNMOC). NPS is the largest producer of advanced graduate degrees for the Department of Defense and proudly graduates thousands every year from all services and from over 50 countries. NRL provides all scientific and weather modeling as well as atmospheric and aerosol studies. FNMOC provides the highest quality, most relevant and timely worldwide Meteorology and Oceanography support to U.S. and coalition forces from FNMOC’s 24x7 operations center in Monterey. NSA Monterey supports over 160 buildings which are located on more than 626 acres.

    Naval Weapons Station (NWS) Seal Beach

    Naval Weapons Station (NWS) Seal Beach is the Navy’s primary West Coast ordnance storage, loading and maintenance installation. Under the station’s primary tenant, the Navy Munitions Command, cruisers, destroyers, frigates, and medium-sized amphibious assault ships are loaded with missiles, torpedoes, countermeasures devices and conventional ammunition at the facility’s 1,000 foot-long wharf. An average of 50 vessels are loaded or unloaded each year. The weapons station services a majority of the U. S. Pacific Fleet.

    Naval Medical Center, San Diego (NMCSD) is the most technologically advanced Navy medical treatment facility. Nicknamed Balboa, the Pride of Navy Medicine, the hospital has played a vital role in the history of San Diego for more than 80 years. From the original tent dispensary established in 1917, to the high-tech, ultra modern facility of the 1990s, the mission has remained constant: To provide the finest medical care in a family-centered care environment to the operational forces, their families, and to those who served their country in the past. There are almost half a million people in San Diego County eligible to receive care at the Naval Medical Center. This care is provided by a military and civilian staff of more than 6,000. Naval Medical Center San Diego is first and foremost a military command. The center has five medical mobilization teams including the hospital ship USNS Mercy, whose personnel are drawn from the hospital staff. These teams deploy to the Western Pacific and to Southeast Asia at various times during the year. It is the center's mission to insure Sailors and Marines on board those ships have access to quality medical care, if needed. Throughout its proud history, Naval Medical Center San Diego has established itself as a leader in the field of medicine. That reputation for excellence continues today as the staff propels NMCSD into the 21st century.
