    Movie Theater Slides and Videos

    Movie SlideMWR provides FREE, first-run movies for Sailors and families daily at three San Diego Navy base movie theaters. Include your ad in our pre-feature program of movie slides and video advertising. These vibrant, full-color advertisements are shown on full-size movie screens for 20 seconds. The Naval Base San Diego theater has a capacity of 950. The Lowry Theater at Naval Air Station North Island accommodates 1,540 patrons. The Naval Amphibious base has a capacity of 50 patrons with a monthly attendence of 1,000 patrons. Each theater airs 72 movies monthly. Average attendance at Naval Base San Diego is 50,400 monthly (900 per movie) and North Island is 64,800 monthly (700 per movie). Average attendence at Naval Amphibious Base is 1,000 monthly. Total monthly exposures average 116,200. Advertising presentations run on a loop for approximately 30-45 minutes prior to each movie.

    Beginning January11 - Automotive experts share their expertise on the second Saturday of each month with active duty military and their families. The training program demonstrations teach participants how to conduct basic repairs or maintenance on their personal vehicle and how to recognize and avoid automotive scams. 500 expected participants annually.

    April 12 - The “All Hands” Car Show is open to all active duty, retirees, DoD employees and their dependents. Each entrant receives an “event bag.” The “All Hands” Car Show is held concurrently with the Military Family Spring Fling. Event is expected to attract 200 participants and 2,000 spectators.

    April 24 - MWR and DECA team up to present the 2nd Annual Expo featuring healthy foods and fitness options available to all MWR/DECA patrons. The Expo will feature food preparations, proper storage demonstrations, fruit the edible decoration, tasting and fun mini-workout options such as yoga, tai chi, kickboxing and Zumba.     NAVY’S 28th BAY BRIDGE RUN/WALK • PUBLIC EVENT

    May 18 - The only four-mile run/walk that crosses over the majestic Coronado Bay Bridge, begins downtown at the Bayfront Hilton on Park Boulevard, continues over the Bridge and ends in Tidelands Park, Coronado. Participants of all ages compete in various age divisions for unique prizes. The event includes an exhibitor expo, entertainment, awards ceremony and door prizes. This event is open to the public and attracts approximately 11,000+ participants and 2,000 spectators.

    August 23 - Six teams of six build rafts using barrels, inner tubes, wood, duct tape, brooms and rope. Contestants then race their crafts to a buoy 100 meters away and back - or swim to shore.     Naval Air Facility (NAF) El Centro has a unique combination of climate, vast unobstructed desert terrain, limited non-military air traffic, convenient access to gunnery and bomb ranges-which makes it an ideal environment for training. NAF El Centro is the winter training home of the Blue Angels and routinely provides service to Navy Fleet air squadrons performing tactical air training, as well as other US and international units. Each month, seven to twelve squadrons totaling 150 to 1,600 military transient personnel train at NAF El Centro. These military personnel come from Navy, Marine Corps, Army, and Air Force installations throughout the United States.

    Naval Base San Diego (NBSD) is the largest of the San Diego Naval installations. It provides services to its Sailors and other personnel as well as to the pier-side needs of different countries’ visiting ships. NBSD is home to more than 200 separate tenant commands and other Navy support facilities, each having specific and specialized fleet support missions. NBSD provides rooms to house more than 4,000 men and women in modern apartment-like barracks, including Pacific Beacon, a new state-of-the-art residence. The base today has a plant value of around $2.1 billion and is one of the world’s most modern and largest naval bases.

    Naval Base Coronado (NBC) is a consolidated Navy installation encompassing eight military facilities. In 1997, Naval Base Coronado was created, incorporating seven separate Naval installations under one Commanding Officer. Those facilities include: Naval Air Station North Island, Naval Amphibious Base Coronado, Naval Outlying Landing Field Imperial Beach, Naval Auxiliary Landing Field San Clemente Island, Silver Strand Training Complex, formerly known as the Naval Radio Receiving Facility, Mountain Warfare Training Facility La Posta, and the Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape Facility, Warner Springs. Camp Morena was added in 2008. These eight installations encompass more than 57,000 acres and make NBC the largest command in the southwest region of the U.S. NBC accounts for over 30% of the Region’s total workforce and has the largest workforce in San Diego County.

    Naval Base Point Loma (NBPL) supports 70 U.S. Pacific Fleet afloat and shore based tenant commands headquartered on the base. NBPL’s primary focus is to provide safe, efficient, and timely services to both home-ported and visiting submarines, surface ships, and mine counter measure vessels. Activities provide significant airfield, seaport, railhead, and base facilities support for multiple tenant operations by all branches of the military, including the Reserve and Air National Guard. It stands as a full-service organization and is a main naval installation on the West Coast accommodating a wide variety of personnel, missions, battalions, construction forces and more.

    Naval Support Activity (NSA) Monterey

    Naval Support Activity (NSA) Monterey is home to over 15 tenant commands. NSA Monterey provides primary support to the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS), Navy Research Lab (NRL), and the Fleet Numerical Meteorology and Oceanography Center (FNMOC). NPS is the largest producer of advanced graduate degrees for the Department of Defense and proudly graduates thousands every year from all services and from over 50 countries. NRL provides all scientific and weather modeling as well as atmospheric and aerosol studies. FNMOC provides the highest quality, most relevant and timely worldwide Meteorology and Oceanography support to U.S. and coalition forces from FNMOC’s 24x7 operations center in Monterey. NSA Monterey supports over 160 buildings which are located on more than 626 acres.

    Naval Weapons Station (NWS) Seal Beach is the Navy’s primary West Coast ordnance storage, loading and maintenance installation. Under the station’s primary tenant, the Navy Munitions Command, cruisers, destroyers, frigates, and medium-sized amphibious assault ships are loaded with missiles, torpedoes, countermeasures devices and conventional ammunition at the facility’s 1,000 foot-long wharf. An average of 50 vessels are loaded or unloaded each year. The weapons station services a majority of the U. S. Pacific Fleet.

    Naval Medical Center, San Diego (NMCSD) is the most technologically advanced Navy medical treatment facility. Nicknamed Balboa, the Pride of Navy Medicine, the hospital has played a vital role in the history of San Diego for more than 80 years. From the original tent dispensary established in 1917, to the high-tech, ultra modern facility of the 1990s, the mission has remained constant: To provide the finest medical care in a family-centered care environment to the operational forces, their families, and to those who served their country in the past. There are almost half a million people in San Diego County eligible to receive care at the Naval Medical Center. This care is provided by a military and civilian staff of more than 6,000. Naval Medical Center San Diego is first and foremost a military command. The center has five medical mobilization teams including the hospital ship USNS Mercy, whose personnel are drawn from the hospital staff. These teams deploy to the Western Pacific and to Southeast Asia at various times during the year. It is the center's mission to insure Sailors and Marines on board those ships have access to quality medical care, if needed.
