ALL-STAR EVENTS...PLAY BALL! Leagues-Competitions-Tournaments
The eight San Diego Navy Fitness Centers serve over 84,000 patrons monthly, and hold league competitions, tournaments in softball, football, volleyball, basketball, soccer, softball, dodgeball, tennis and racquetball. All-Star events build morale and help military members maintain peak physical fitness. Prizes are awarded to individual, command and group winners. Event favorites include: Presidents’ Day Softball Tournament, Navy Relief Sports Week Softball, and Basketball Tournaments, Take-it-to-the-Hoop Lunchtime League, Kickball Tournament, PRT Command Challenge and Holiday Sports Week. Expected participation is 100-500 for each event serving over 150,000 annually.

BOWLING TOURNAMENTS AND EVENTS
MWR offers many bowling tournaments and events annually including: Junior Scholarship League, Sweetheart Specials, St. Patrick’s Day Spring Tournament, Family Days of Summer Fun, Armed Forces Tournament, Special Olympics, National Amateur Bowlers, Labor Day Special, Turkey Shoot, Military 200 Club, and Non-Alcoholic New Year’s Eve Parties. These events are open to all branches of the military, their families, reservists, retirees and DoD civilian personnel. Each event attracts from 600 to 1,000 participants.

CHILD AND YOUTH PROGRAMS
San Diego Metro bases operate 13 child development centers and eight youth centers throughout San Diego County. Youth programs provide physical activities, field trips to theme parks and San Diego local attractions, movie nights, dances, entertainment, holiday celebrations, after school programs, Military Family Toddler Time and many more fun events. Sponsorship for Child and Youth Center Programs supports activities for over 40,000 children per month and approximately 480,000 annually.

FREE ACTIVE DUTY BOWLING & BILLIARDS
On Mondays & Tuesdays, MWR Recreation Centers provide Sailors with FREE bowling. Mondays are at NASNI’s Sea ‘N Air Lanes and Tuesdays are FREE bowling and billiards at Naval Base San Diego’s Admiral Robinson Recreation Center. The events attract approximately 400 per facility weekly, or 41,600 annually. Sponsorship is available in two-month segments.

LIBERTY TRIPS and EXCURSIONS FOR SAILORS
Liberty Centers give Sailors a much needed break from the ship and work. Trips and excursions include: Big Bear, Las Vegas, Valentine’s weekend trip, Catalina Island, White Water Rafting, Black Canyon Canoe Trip, Skydiving, End of Summer Camping Trip, Grand Canyon and more. Activities attract 125,000 annually. Sponsorship is per trip or excursion.

"SAILORS HOME-AWAY-FROM-HOME" LIBERTY CENTER PROGRAMS
Sailors head over to their Liberty Center for great events including: luaus, BBQs, comedy nights, special event parties with refreshments, entertainment and trivia competitions, Super Bowl Extravaganzas, “Home Away from Home” events complete with food, games, music and movies, and annual holiday festivities with free gift wrapping supplies and cards. Each of our six Liberty Centers attracts between 150-600 active duty military members per event and the program serves approximately 60,000 Sailors annually. Sponsorship is per Liberty Center and includes Naval Medical Center San Diego.

WELCOME HOME! PIZZA PARTY & "NIGHT ON THE TOWN" TOURS
MWR delivers pizzas to returning ship crew members standing duty the first night back in port at Naval Base San Diego, Naval Air Station North Island, Naval Base Point Loma and Naval Amphibious Base. The “Night on the Town” tours take newly-returned Sailors to San Diego points of interest. Annual participation is 10,500 Sailors.

STUDENT TRANSITION PROGRAMS
Military children and their families are helped through difficult periods of public school transitions with a series of meetings and events with public school educators and administrators. Meetings and events bring together military children, their families and educators in a relaxed atmosphere to get acquainted, discuss goals, and introduce the MWR and Fleet & Family programs available to assist in the development of military students into productive and secure public school attendees. This program serves 40,000 annually.

WARRIOR GOLF PROGRAM
This seven-week program for Wounded Warriors brings the best possible experience to the game of golf. Adaptive equipment is made available to Wounded Warriors to increase their mastery and enjoyment of the game. The program is run eight times throughout the year and serves 200 participants per seven-week program.

SAN DIEGO METRO AREA • Quarterly - Navy Region Southwest connects with IAs and their families ensuring they are aware of the resources and support services available during their Sailor’s deployment. Monthly meetings and recreational activities for IAs and their families are to network and build relationships that will assist them in overcoming the unique challenges of the IA Sailor. SAN DIEGO METRO AREA • February 11-15 - This program provides the skills and tools necessary for our military families to be “Financially Fit.” The readiness program workshops provide needed information and resources to help with the financial demands on all of our MWR patrons. Workshops are held annually on all military bases throughout San Diego at theaters, Liberty Centers and Youth Centers and approximately 2,500 MWR patrons attend.

BAYSIDE BOAT BASH
NAB • August 24 - Six teams of six build rafts using barrels, inner tubes, wood, duct tape, brooms and rope. Contestants then race their crafts to a buoy 100 meters away and back - or swim to shore. In addition, a multitude of current Navy jets and helicopters, special boats and hovercraft, as well as vintage aircraft, are on display with pilots standing by eager to answer questions and show you around, even allowing access into the equipment. Car enthusiasts can also visit the Car Corral which showcases a variety of automobiles ranging in age, model and make; and a trip to Vendor Village will satisfy any shopaholic’s inner need to spend some money on unique items. NAF EL CENTRO • October 6 - Held at Naval Air Facility El Centro, the triathlon includes a 500-yard swim, 10-mile bike ride and 5K run. Winners enjoy a health expo, food, refreshments and awards. Open to the public, the event attracts 50 participants and 150 spectators.

NB VENTURA COUNTY • October 25 - Held at Port Hueneme, the Haunted Halloween event is specially designed in the daytime hours with less gore for children, but the night hours are reserved for adults and those willing to experience fear! The event also includes a Halloween carnival with games for children. This fun event attracts 2,500 participants.

IRON MAN CHALLENGE
NAWS CHINA LAKE • November - This is a month-long challenge open to all MWR patrons. Challenges include a 2.4-mile swim, 114-mile bike ride and a 26.6-mile run. Event is expected to attract 30 participants.

NSA MONTEREY • November 8-11 - The invitational softball tournament brings together the best softball players in the entire Navy Region Southwest and other military installations.
