BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: These positions are located in the Dining Services, Morale, Welfare and Recreation, and Recycling departments in Navy Region Southwest. The purpose of these positions is to drive a motor vehicle for the assigned facility and maintain the cleanliness and daily maintenance of the vehicle. Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
NA-04, MVO (CUSTODIAN)
• Driver’s license required
• Basic skill in manipulating the controls for driving vehicles
• Knowledge of the height, width, length, and weight of the vehicle in order to operate the vehicles safely on short runs, following limited or prescribed routes throughout a government installation
• Knowledge of installation traffic rules and regulations and skill to read and understand installation maps and other locator documents for finding various buildings and facilities
• Knowledge and skill to load and arrange cargo properly onto vehicle to prevent damage to material
• Knowledge to recognize developing maintenance problems when conducting an inspection of the vehicle s and to report technical problems to the supervisor
• Must meet Federal Employment suitability requirements and successful completion of background investigation. Background Investigations are conducted using fingerprint identification and completion of background inquiry forms.
NA-05, MVO (GROUNDSKEEPER), ALL OF NA-04 AND:
• Skilled in the use of a variety of hand tools including hammers, saws, drills, screwdrivers, pliers, socket sets, shovels, and picks
• Ability to operate tractors, roto-tillers, air blowers, weed eaters, and buffers
• Possess a general knowledge of athletic facilities and ground preparation for various outdoor sports
• Skill is needed to maneuver driver operated machinery in small places, tight, confined spaces, and in small turning radius
• Pool water chemistry is tested and adjusted daily
• Knowledge to apply standard measurements and specification to accomplish work
• Ability to learn and retain HAZMAT/MSDS requirements on handling of chemicals, fertilizers, and other ground keeping and marking agent’s
NA-05, MVO (PIZZA DELIVERY), ALL OF NA-04 AND:
• Must have a valid California Driver’s license
• Knowledge of defensive driving techniques to avoid accidents and to transport items safely
• Must be able to obtain a food handler’s certificate
• Must be able to answer telephones and take delivery orders
• Must be courteous, friendly and able to work well with others
NA-06 MVO (RECYCLING), ALL OF NA-04 AND:
• Knowledge to make difficult judgments concerning loading and arranging cargo, overhead and side clearances, turning radius, braking distance, and distance to be maintained from other vehicles
• Ability to manipulate hydraulic controls
• Ability to operate power takeoff devices
