Navy Wounded Warrior

Numquam Navigare Solus – Never to Sail Alone

Navy Wounded Warrior (NWW) is the Navy's sole organization for coordinating the non-medical care of seriously wounded, ill, and injured Sailors and Coast Guardsmen, and providing resources and support to their families and caregivers. Through proactive leadership, the program provides individually tailored assistance designed to optimize the success of the wounded warrior's recovery, rehabilitation, and reintegration activities.

Our mission is to help Sailors and Coast Guardsmen return to duty. When that's not possible, the program works collaboratively with federal agencies and state and local organizations to ease them back into their communities.

The Navy Region Southwest's NWW division is headquartered at Naval Medical Center San Diego and serves wounded warriors in California, Arizona, and Nevada.

Adaptive Sports

Fitness and teamwork are a way of life in the military. Serious illness or injury can profoundly impact that way of life, often confining a service member to a hospital bed and significantly altering their physical capabilities.

Adaptive athletics have been modified to meet the abilities of injured or ill individuals. They help wounded warriors build strength and endurance while also drawing
inspiration from their teammates.

All wounded warriors enrolled in Navy Wounded Warrior are encouraged to include adaptive athletics in their recovery plans to build strength and endurance. Sports also help build self-esteem, lower stress levels, and invite service members to rejoin a team environment.

Wounded warriors participate in:

  • Archery
  • Cycling
  • Field
  • Indoor rowing
  • Powerlifting
  • Shooting
  • Sitting volleyball
  • Swimming
  • Track
  • Wheelchair Rugby
  • Wheelchair Basketball
