Getting to the Event


All public guests must access the base via Gate 9, located at 8th St. and Harbor Dr. in National City.

 

Directions to Gate 9

  • From 5 South: take the 8 th St. exit and prepare to turn left. Follow 8 th St. until it ends at Gate 9.
  • From 5 North: take the Harbor Dr. exit and continue straight. Prepare to turn left into Gate 9 at 8 th St.

ID Requirements

IDs are NOT required when entering Gate 9 to park and enter the event area.

IDs ARE required to access the piers for ship tours. All adult visitors (18 years of age and older) must show a valid U.S. FEDERAL or STATE issued identification or passport.

Ship Tours

Hours: 9 am-3 pm

Walk in the footsteps of a Sailor as you explore real U.S. Navy ships! Join us for immersive tours aboard an Amphibious Assault Ship, USS Tripoli (LHA 7), U.S. Navy Destroyers, Pinckney (DDG 91) and USS Higbee (DDG 123), or Littoral Combat Ship, USS Montgomery (LCS 8). Learn more about each ship's unique features and experience what it's like to live and work aboard these impressive vessels.

Navy Harbor Patrol Unit Demonstration

Times: 9:45 am, 11:30 am, 1:15 pm, 2:30 pm

Join us for an exhilarating showcase of naval prowess as NBSD's Harbor Patrol Unit takes to the waters for a live demonstration featuring blank round firing. Experience the excitement and precision of our dedicated personnel as they simulate critical operations in a safe and controlled environment. Witness firsthand the skills and teamwork that keep our waters and assets safe!

Military Working Dog Demonstration

Times: 9:15 am, 10:30 am, 11:45 am, 2 pm

Prepare to be amazed as our skilled Military Working Dog (MWD) teams take the spotlight in a thrilling demonstration of their capabilities! Watch as the Dog Team and Decoy conduct a field interview that showcases the impressive skills of our four-legged heroes through a running bite and standoff. Experience the bond between handler and dog as they work seamlessly together to ensure safety and security. This demonstration highlights the vital role that MWDs play in military operations, combining training, discipline, and agility.

Admission Requirements

This event is open to the public. Bring friends and family along to Meet the Fleet!

Getting to The Event

Main Entrance: All public guests must access the base via Gate 9, located at 8 th St. and Harbor Dr. in National City.

Parking and Transportation: Guests will be directed to parking areas on base via signs and personnel. Those displaying a valid state-issued disability placard will be directed to ADA compliant parking.

Event Shuttle Service: Shuttles will take guests from the 8 th St. trolley and bus depot to the event site.

Ship Tours

Ship tours are FREE!

  • IDs are required to access the pier for ship tours. All adult visitors (ages 18+) must show a valid U.S. FEDERAL or STATE issued ID or passport.
  • Visitors under 18 shall be accompanied by a properly identified adult.
  • Adults with young children must use extreme caution when transiting the ship during tours.
  • All visitors and their bags will be inspected before entering the pier enclave.
  • U.S. Navy ships are NOT ADA compliant.
  • Photography is at the discretion of the ship.
  • Closed-toe shoes are highly recommended.
  • NO pets (including ADA service dogs) are authorized on the ships.
  • You will enter multiple security-controlled areas during your visit.

Food & Beverages

Food trucks and other vendors will have food and beverage for purchase with credit/debit cards. (Some vendors may take cash but be prepared for those who only take cards.)

NO alcohol will be provided or permitted at the event.

Handicap

NBSD is accessible to visitors with disabilities. If you require special accommodations, please notify the sentry at the gate upon arrival to be issued a pass.

Prohibited Items

The following items will not be allowed at the event:

  • Large ice chests and coolers
  • Pets (Exception: ADA Service Dogs will be allowed onto the installation and event area but will not be allowed on the pier)
  • Glass containers
  • All weapons (regardless of permit): firearms, knives, replica or toy weapons, clubs, stun guns, or anything that ejects a projectile
  • Mace, pepper spray, spray cans or other defensive spray or chemicals
  • Fireworks or explosives of any kind
  • Flammable liquids
  • Club weapons
  • Marijuana/illegal drugs and/or paraphernalia
  • Drones/Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS)
  • Pop-up tents
  • Large backpacks or other large bags, oversized camera bags, or purses larger than 7 inches by 10 inches (Special consideration given to diaper bags, strollers, etc. accompanying small children)
  • Gas and charcoal grills
  • Outside food or beverages (Exception: baby food or formula outside designated areas)
  • Two-way radios and scanners
  • Bullhorns, flags (excluding U.S.), spray paint, or demonstration material/equipment of any kind
  • Skateboards/bicycles/hover boards or electric vehicles of any kind
  • Gang-related clothing/accessories
  • Laser Pointers
  • Propaganda/political posters, flags or signs displaying personal political views
